What do real estate lawyers do?

Real estate lawyers advise clients on matters relating to land and property.

Their work involves helping clients buy, sell, lease, develop and manage real estate. Lawyers at large firms will almost exclusively advise corporate landlords and tenants, development companies and investment firms.

Real estate lawyers help ensure transactions are legally sound, risks are managed, and interests are protected.

Typical tasks for real estate lawyers include drafting and negotiating transaction documents, like sale contracts, commercial leases and development agreements, investigating property titles to confirm ownership or uncover restrictions, and advising on a client’s rights and obligations under a lease.

What is the average salary for a real estate lawyer?

Real estate lawyers at the leading London law firms can expect to earn between £120,000 - £150,000 at the junior end of the associate scale (up to 2/3 years’ PQE).

Mid and senior-level associates can expect to earn north of £200,000.
