The team is headed up by Monica Gogna, head of EY Law's financial institutions law group.
The moves continue a recent regulatory-focused expansion drive for Squires.
Monica Gogna, one of EY’s most senior UK legal partners, is joining Squire Patton Boggs, bringing a four-lawyer team with her.
She will head up the regulatory arm of the firm’s financial services practice, according to Financial News.
Gogna joined EY in 2021 to head up its UK financial regulation practice. She became head of the firm’s financial institutions law group in March last year.
She previously held partner roles at Dechert, Ropes & Gray and Pinsent Masons.
EY in retrenchment mode
Her departure marks the latest setback for EY’s UK legal business, which has struggled to gain traction over the past decade. The firm recently confirmed that 30 roles were at risk across its UK and Ireland legal division.
Squires' regulatory push
For Squires, the hire is the latest in a string of strategic additions aimed at strengthening its European regulatory and financial services offering.
In January, the firm announced the hire of a seven-lawyer regulatory team from Fieldfisher in Brussels.
At the time, Brussels managing partner Bart Vanderstraete said that Brussels was "at the heart of what is a core market for Squire Patton Boggs”, adding "Our credentials in the regulatory sphere are now second to none and position us as a key player in advising on ESG matters across industries."
